Speaking to journalists, the institution’s Rector, Engr. Kamoru Kadiri, expressed excitement about hosting the prestigious event for the first time in the polytechnic’s 33-year history.

The tournament will take place across both campuses, welcoming student-athletes from nearly 50 polytechnics nationwide.

Competitors will vie for medals in various sporting disciplines, including badminton, basketball, chess, tennis, athletics, football, handball, judo, scrabble, taekwondo, and volleyball.

“Our hostel accommodations have undergone extensive renovations to ensure the comfort of athletes and officials. Additionally, medical facilities have been upgraded for the duration of the games,” Engr. Kadiri assured.

He highlighted the institution’s commitment to hosting a world-class event, with enhanced sports infrastructure and a newly developed multi-purpose sports complex ready for the competitions. Beyond the pursuit of medals, he emphasized that the games aim to foster friendships, sportsmanship, inclusivity, and social unity.

“For us as hosts, NIPOGA is not just about winning—it’s about building connections, breaking barriers, and celebrating diversity,” he said.

The Rector also underscored the significance of grassroots sports development, citing that 30% of medals at the last Olympics were won by young athletes and undergraduates. He believes NIPOGA will serve as a platform for discovering talent and propelling students toward international sporting success.

Calling for increased sponsorship, Engr. Kadiri stressed the broader impact of the games, including promoting physical and mental well-being, boosting Offa’s socioeconomic growth, and creating networking opportunities. He also assured that stringent security measures would be in place to guarantee a safe and seamless tournament.
