The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has conveyed the unwavering support of the Federal Government for the Super Eagles as they embark on their journey to clinch a fourth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in Cote d’Ivoire in January 2024.
Speaking to reporters at Tunde Idiagbon International Airport in Ilorin on Saturday, Minister Enoh reassured the nation that the government, under the leadership of the president, is fully committed to ensuring the success of the national team.

“We have the full backing of the president. We are hoping that we are going to make the best of it,” said Minister Enoh.
The statement underscores the significance the presidency places on a triumphant outing for the Super Eagles in the upcoming AFCON tournament.
Expressing the pride and honour that would accompany a fourth AFCON title, a decade after their last triumph in South Africa, Minister Enoh emphasized the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Sports Development and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Both entities are working diligently to ensure meticulous planning and execution for a successful campaign.
“With a resounding desire for success and the unwavering support of the Presidency, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are gearing up to showcase their prowess and determination on the continental stage,” stated Minister Enoh.
The Ministry of Sports Development, in close coordination with the NFF, is dedicated to creating an environment conducive to the team’s success.
This commitment from the Federal Government comes in the wake of the release of the 25-man squad by Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, for the upcoming AFCON tournament.
The presidency’s endorsement and support signify a united front as the national team prepares to compete in Group A against Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.
The Super Eagles, three-time AFCON champions (1980, 1994, and 2013), are determined to add another title to their illustrious history.
The “Let’s do it again” campaign recently launched by the NFF aligns with the nation’s collective aspiration for the team’s success in Cote d’Ivoire.
Hostilities for the 24-nation continental showpiece are scheduled to kick off from January 13 to February 11, 2024, across six venues in Cote d’Ivoire.
