Federal Government Commends Ogun State’s Dedication to Hosting a World-Class National Sports Festival

The Federal Government has praised Ogun State for its unwavering commitment to delivering a world-class National Sports Festival as preparations intensify for the highly anticipated event.

In a groundbreaking development, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), with strong backing from the National Sports Commission (NSC), officially announced Premium Trust Bank as the lead sponsor of the festival during an unveiling ceremony in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

Chairman of the NSC, Mallam Shehu Dikko, hailed this achievement, emphasizing the crucial role of corporate and private sector investment in advancing Nigerian sports in alignment with the commission’s vision.

“The selection of Premium Trust Bank as the lead sponsor for the 2024 National Sports Festival reflects the growing confidence of the private sector in Nigerian sports.

Ogun State has shown exceptional dedication, and this partnership marks a significant step toward elevating the festival to world-class standards,” Dikko stated.

Highlighting the broader impact of the event, he noted that the festival is set to drive economic growth, promote tourism, create job opportunities, and strengthen Ogun State’s reputation as a center for sports excellence.

“Beyond the excitement of competition, the Gateway Games 2024 will stimulate the local economy, provide a platform for young athletes, and leave a lasting legacy for the state.

The National Sports Commission is fully committed to this vision and will extend all necessary support to ensure the festival’s success,” he added.

Dikko further described the festival as a celebration of talent, resilience, and the limitless potential within Nigerian sports.

He expressed confidence that with Ogun State’s high level of preparedness and the dedication of all stakeholders, the 2024 edition would be the most outstanding in the history of the event.

As the festival approaches, the NSC remains committed to working closely with the host state to facilitate all necessary resources for a seamless and memorable experience.

Regarded as the “Nigerian Olympics,” the National Sports Festival is owned by the National Sports Commission and is expected to bring together over 20,000 participants from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

For the first time, the competition will also include Invited Junior Athletes (IJA), recognized as the 38th state.

The festival is scheduled to take place from May 16 to May 30, 2025.
