Minster of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello has disclosed that 8,259 delegates are being expected from the 36 country’s states at the 19th National Sports Festival in Abuja.
Bello, however, said the FCT will be ready for everyone that is coming for the festival, for which sports247.ng reports that accommodation has been arranged at five hostels for the games, holding December 6 to 16.
The minister said all athletes, coaches, officials and state delegates will be lodged at various hostels of University of Abuja, NYSC Orientation Camp, Regina Pacis College Garki, Government Science Secondary School Maitama and Government Girls Secondary School Dutse.
While confirming that the Games Villages will open on December 4, Bello promised that his ministry will fully support the festival and ensure that nothing would be lacking during their hosting venture.
Making this known during a meeting of the Main Organising Committee and Local Organising Committee in Abuja, Bello, who was represented by the FCT Ministry permanent secretary, Christian Ohaa said they plan to stage a memorable and hitch free sports gathering.
Ohaa, who doubles as Abuja 2018 LOC chairman and MOC vice-chairman, said they are working out all logistics and should be looking forward to a very successful festival in less that two weeks.
Ohaa expatiated: “The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello has asked me to convey the assurances of the ministry’s 100% commitment to the hosting of the 19th National Sports Festival coming up here in Abuja.
“Hosts of Sports Festivals are usually selected through competitive bidding but due to paucity of funds, so many states are reluctant to bid but I am optimistic that Abuja will put up a good show and host the 19th National Sports Festival which has suffered series of postponements.”
