Chairman FC Robo Queens of Lagos, Emmanuel Osahon has welcomed the decision of the Confederation African Football CAF to introduce the women’s champions league for clubs in Africa starting from 2021.
Some few days ago, the CAF Executive Committee took the decision to introduce the women’s champions league with at least ten clubs on the continent at the virtual meetings.
Osahon in a chat with Journalists in Lagos said the CAF women’s champions league would expose the hidden talents across Africa noted that more local players would come to limelight and get offers from the various continents of the world.
He explained further that the champions league would attract more companies to sponsor the leagues in various African countries so that the era of players complaining about their welfare and other benefits would become a thing of the past.
“I am happy and welcome the idea of Women’s champions league starting from next year. Time has come for African clubs to engage themselves on the continental level so that African women’s players would get offers from Europe and other parts of the world instead of waiting to showcase their talents in FIFA world cup,” he said.
The Edo born tactician who doubles as football administrator said women’s football in Nigeria has come of age and called the corporate bodies, sports philanthropists, and concern football lovers to sponsor Nigeria women football league so as to equal their male counterpart.
With the commencement of CAF women’s champions league next year, Osahon said the league in Nigeria would be more competitive and tough and urged the organizers to work on the grey areas that may bring the league into disrepute.
“We need to do more in our league if Nigerian club wants to win the inaugural edition of the competition. We need to get sponsors as early as possible so that all the grey areas identified in our league would be addressed and the best clubs would represent the country in next year’s inaugural edition of women’s club champions league,” he concluded.
Meanwhile chairperson of the Nigerian women football league, Aisha Falode recently said a Nigerian club should be a pioneer winner of first CAF women’s champions league come next year.
