In a recent interview conducted on the WhatsApp platform Sports World, Honourable Nse Udofot Essien, President of FC One Rocket in Uyo, expressed admiration for the transformation and improvement witnessed in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) under the leadership of NPFL Board Chairman, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye.
During the conversation, the Akwa-Ibom State board member lauded Elegbeleye’s efforts in enhancing the top-flight league, attributing the positive changes to his leadership.

Essien highlighted the importance of ensuring that the best teams emerge victorious in football matches to have true representatives from the Nigeria League.
He expressed gratitude for the improvements witnessed in the current season, crediting Elegbeleye and other league leaders for their contributions.
“That is why it is always important to allow the better team to win in every football match, that’s when you have a true representative from the Nigeria League but thankfully, there is great improvement like I said earlier this season, thanks to the Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye (Chairman NPFL Board) and leaders of the other leagues.”
Furthermore, Essien revealed insights into the future of Nigerian football, particularly regarding the integration of advanced technology like the Video Assistant Referee (VAR).
He disclosed that NFF President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, has pledged to train referees on utilizing advanced technology, with consultations underway with CAF and FIFA to implement these initiatives.
Additionally, Essien shared his experience as part of the NFF delegation to the AFCON 2023 in Coted’viore, where the Super Eagles of Nigeria clinched the silver medal.
His involvement in such prestigious events underscores his commitment to football development in Nigeria and his dedication to elevating the sport to greater heights.
