The final of Best Ogedegbe Under 15 football Competition between Adelagun Memorial Grammar School, Odinjo, Ibadan and Precious Football Academy, Idi Ayunre will come up on the 28th of this month at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
The Competition will also coincide with the ten years Remembrance of the former Green Eagles Goalkeeper, who died at the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan on September 28, 2009.
Speaking with newsmen in Ibadan, the younger brother of Best Ogedegbe, Julius Ogedegbe explained that the Ogedegbe family have been organising the football competition for the past six years as part of ways to immortalise him.
According to Ogedegbe, eight football teams competed for the Trophy, before Adelagun Memorial Grammar School and Precious Football Academy qualified for the final slated for one ‘o’ in the afternoon.
He pointed out that TYJ football Academy, Oke-Ado will slug it out with Community Grammar School, Kudeti for the third-place position, to be played the same day.
Julius, who is also the manager of Ogedegbe football Academy, said the under 13 Football team of the Academy will engage Fresh FM Juvenile Football Academy in a challenge Cup at three ‘o’clock in the afternoon.
Best Anthony Ogedegbe was born on July 6th, 1954. He played for Dainamos Academy, Lagos National Bank Football Team and IICC Shooting stars Football Club of Ibadan.
While at IICC, the club emerged Champions of the Africa Cup Winners Cup in 1976 and this earned his invitation to the Green Eagles, which later won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1980.
He retired from the national team in 1982.
Best Ogedegbe was a former goalkeeper trainer for the defunct Dolphins football club of Port Harcourt and Sharks Football Club, a former national goalkeeper trainer and former coach of the defunct Abiola Babes football club of Abeokuta, Ogun state.
Best Anthony Ogedegbe, a recipient of Member of the Order, M.O.N., died from the complications from an eye surgery as a result of injuries sustained while manning the goal post for the then Green Eagles of Nigeria.
