The foundation is currently in the final stages of a national breakdance competition, with the aim of sending two winners to represent Nigeria in an international Breakdance Competition in France.
Emmanuelle Blatmann, the France Ambassador to Nigeria, highlighted the initiative’s focus on empowering the country’s youth. She explained, “The idea is to work towards social inclusion through sports. And as you may know, for the first time in history, breakdancing is going to be an Olympic event next year.”
Blatmann continued, “So it’s a great idea to promote breakdance here where we know there is so much talent, and sports is part of the culture of Nigerians. Through sport and dance, there are so many values that we can promote.”
The Executive Director of Fame Foundation, Ms. Aderonke Bello, revealed that the grand finale of the nationwide breakdance competition, featuring over 1000 youth participants, is scheduled to take place in Lagos in November this year. She emphasized the significance of this initiative in light of breakdancing’s inclusion as an Olympic sport.
Bello stated, “Today here for the Abuja qualifier of the national breakdance competition. We have been to Kano, Kaduna, Port Harcourt. This is the fourth stage which is the FCT.

In two weeks’ time, we will be in Lagos for the final qualifier. And there would be the overall final in November where we would pick two winners that would represent Nigeria at an international dance championship in Paris.”
She further explained the dual purpose of this effort, saying, “We are using breakdance to empower the youths. We have been campaigning against drugs, saying no to rape, and addressing several social vices. So breakdance is here to empower the youths. As they are breakdancing, they are sending messages to other youths against thuggery, rape, and other vices.”
This collaboration between Fame Foundation and the French Embassy not only seeks to introduce breakdancing to a wider audience but also aims to utilize the sport as a means of empowering young people while promoting positive values and behaviors.
As the journey to the 2024 Paris Olympics continues, Nigeria’s youth are at the forefront of this dynamic initiative.
