Falode Backs Falcons To Beat Equatorial Guinea

Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) chairperson, Aisha Falode has backed the country’s female national team, Super Falcons to get victory on Saturday against Equatorial Guinea at the continental championship.

Sports247.ng reports that, heading into their third group match at the African Women Cup of Nations, Falode believes the Falcons have learnt huge lessons from their opening group loss to South Africa.

The ace broadcaster-turned-administrator is of a view that the team is finally gelling and putting their art together, which she believes will make a world of difference against their next opponents.

Victory against the shock whipping team of the group will assure Nigeria of a semi-final ticket, with only one more step towards qualification for next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, and Falode says it will be gained after 90 minutes against Equatorial Guinea in Cape Coast, Ghana.

The NFF executive committee member and chairperson of the body’s women football committee, affirmed that the Falcons will always be a strong contender for FIFA Women’s World Cup ticket.

Falode added: “Every match is crucial; we are here as African champions. We not only want to qualify for the World Cup; we want to be a strong contender for the Women’s World Cup trophy come France 2019.

“The first match was somewhat demoralizing. It was not the result that we expected. It was as shocking as it was stunning to all Nigerians, including the players.

“They were not happy with the performance, but as true champions that they are, they put it behind them, went into the next game against Zambia and won handsomely to re-build their confidence.

“We always believe in the Super Falcons to get us result. We always believe that they are not only strong mentally.

“We are now on the right track. The girls are motivated, they are concentrating, they are strong as individuals and as a unit.
“They have been given everything they need to perform and excel. They have been paid their bonuses and allowances.
“Every game is important until we lift the trophy back to Nigeria and secure our ticket to World Cup.”
