Falcons Get Title Charge From High Commissioner

Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Olufemi Abikoye has charged the Super Falcons to win the 11th African Women Cup of Nations, by beating South Africa in Accra on Saturday.

 

 

 

Ambassador Abikoye stated as much when he visited the Falcons’ camp in an effort to boost the players’ morale and encourage the coaches for victory against Banyana Banyana, sports247.ng reports.

 

 

Abikoye, who was accompanied by officials from the High Commission in Accra, visited the Falcons shortly before the team headed out for training at the sports ground of Presbyterian Secondary School in the same city.

 

He congratulated the team for picking the ticket for the final and for qualifying for next year’s FIFA Women World Cup in France, bot h of which he affirmed are worthy of praise.

He told them that they have made Nigerians and President Muhammadu Buhari proud, as they are now bound to become champions of not just Nigeria but also champions of Africa as a whole.

He pledged that the Nigerian Community in Ghana will troop out in their numbers on Saturday to support the team.

Abikoye also disclosed that the large numbers of Nigerians in Ghana and at home appreciate their sheer determination that made them pick the AWCON 2018 final ticket, by beating Cameroon in the tough semi-finals.

The High Commissioner added: “You defeated Cameroon at home the last time to win the title so everyone knew the semi final match between both teams was going to be very tough.

“We thank God you put in all your strength and you listened to the instructions of the coaches and were able to come out on top. The analysts gave the match to Cameroon, but you proved them wrong.

“So, on behalf of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, I want to say big congratulations.

“On Saturday again, it is not going to be easy. Cameroon came out strong because you defeated them in Yaounde in the 2016 final.

“You cannot allow South Africa to beat us twice here in Ghana. It is now your turn to seek your revenge against the South Africans and win the trophy on Saturday.

“We have large numbers of our people who have been here for long. They will all come out on Saturday to support you.

“So, put all your energy and technical know-how into the encounter and win the trophy. A champion will always be a champion.

“The final game against South Africa is not going to be easy, but the whole country is looking up to you all to make Nigeria proud.

“At the end of the tournament, when you must have won the final, we will all celebrate together at the Nigeria House in Accra.”
