Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ coach, Thomas Dennerby has admitted that South Africa could be his side’s biggest threat in their group at this year’s Africa Women’s Cup of Nation in Ghana.
Speaking to sports247.ng in the wake of the AWCON 2018 draw on Sunday night, Dennerby said being pooled alongside South Africa, Kenya and Zambia is not as tough as was initially feared, but said the Falcons will not underrate any of their opponents.
Dennerby, who also disclosed that he will name his final squad for the tournament on November 1, said he hopes his side will start well, as they open their title defence on November 18 in Cape Coast, Ghana.
Dennerby, who admitted Banyana Banyana of South Africa will be the tough nut in the group, opened camp last Monday with 28 home-based players, while making plans for those from overseas to join up later.
Dennerby said he and his assistants will do the best they can to arrive an an effective final squad of 21 players for the 2018 AWCON.
The Swedish coach said: “We’re in a good group and really have a good chance to win it, but we expect a tough game against South Africa.
“We have a good idea of South Africa, but not much about Zambia and Kenya. We’ll try to analyse these teams and we won’t underrate them.”
