Nigeria’s Falconets displayed a masterclass performance on Saturday night to secure a dominant 4-0 victory over Venezuela in their final group stage match at the ongoing 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
After a slow start to the tournament, Nigeria found their stride and delivered a clinical performance that guaranteed their place in the knockout stages.

Precision Passing and Ball Control
One of the standout aspects of Nigeria’s game was their improved passing accuracy. The Falconets made a total of 545 passes during the match, with 414 of them completed successfully.
This represented a significant improvement in their ball control and game management compared to their earlier matches against the Korean Republic and Germany.
Their precise passing allowed them to maintain possession and dictate the tempo of the game, limiting Venezuela’s chances to counterattack.
Effective Wing Play and Crosses
Nigeria also excelled in their use of the wings, delivering a total of 25 crosses throughout the match. While only 5 of those crosses were completed, the constant threat from the wide areas kept Venezuela’s defence stretched and on the back foot. This allowed the Falconets to create scoring opportunities and exploit gaps in their opponent’s defence.
Improved Finishing and Goal Conversion
Perhaps the most important improvement for Nigeria came in their finishing. After struggling to convert chances in their earlier group matches, the Falconets were far more clinical in front of goal against Venezuela.
The fourth goal, in particular, was a perfect example of their precision and sharpness in the final third. This highlighted their ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities.
The Falconets’ ability to combine efficient passing, effective crossing, and sharp finishing resulted in a high goal margin that underscored their superiority on the night. With this victory, the Falconets advanced to the next round with renewed confidence.
If the Falconets continue to build on these strengths, they could be formidable contenders as they advance to the next round.
