Exclusive: NFF Invites Fortuna Sittard Youth Sensation, David Stockbrink To Flying Eagles Ahead Of CAF U20 Championship

Nigeria Football Federation, NFF has invited Fortuna Sittard forward David Stockbrink to join the Flying Eagles, for the upcoming 2025 U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire, Sports247 reports.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) extended the official invitation to Fortuna Sittard on Tuesday, Sports247 gathered exclusively.

Stockbrink, 18, has made four appearances this season for Fortuna Sittard’s U19 and U21 squads in the U19 Eredivisie.

His selection follows his notable performance for Excellent FC in the 2024 Federation Cup, where he garnered the attention of the national team’s scouting staff.

Born in Germany to a Nigerian mother from Umunede, Ika North East Local Government Area, Delta State, Stockbrink’s football development includes tenures at FC Mongdablach, Warta Poznan, and his current club, Fortuna Sittard, which he joined in the January transfer window.

In previous interviews, Stockbrink expressed a strong desire to represent Nigeria at the international level. “Nigeria has always been a significant part of my life,” he stated.

“I have consistently expressed my willingness to represent the country, and I am committed to proving myself if given the opportunity.”

Stockbrink is recognized as a creative winger with a proven goal-scoring ability. His inclusion is anticipated to strengthen Coach Aliyu Zubairu’s squad as they pursue qualification for the U20 World Cup.

David Stockbrink is an 18-year-old forward currently playing for Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch Eredivisie U19 league.

His previous clubs include Soccer stars FC Agbor, KG Sports Academy Agbor, Excellent FC Ughelli, Warta Poznan, Poland, and FC Mongdablach, Germany.

Coach Aliyu Zubairu, the coach of the Nigeria U20 National team has never hide his intention to give capable eligible Nigerians the chance irrepective of where they play to represent the country.

The team will regroup on Match 10, 2025 with some additions from Europe as they continue their preparations for the upcoming CAF U20 Championship in Cote d’ivoire which serves as the qualifier for the 2025 FIFA World Cup as the semi finalists will represent Africa at the World Cup.
