Amid escalating concerns over the goalkeeping predicament facing Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles, a collective plea has emerged from former Super Eagles goalkeepers—Abiodun Baruwa, Dele Aiyenugba, and Dosu Joseph for Adebayo Adeleye to be given a chance.
In light of the recent goalless draw against Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifier, the trio unanimously contends that affording a new goalkeeper the opportunity to man the post is the definitive solution to the ongoing problem.

Voicing their sentiments individually after closely observing the Eagles’ challenging encounter in Rwanda, the trio directed their appeal towards Super Eagles’ coach, Jose Pesseiro, urging him to provide Hapoel Jerusalem’s reliable goalkeeper, Adebayo Adeleye, the chance to showcase his capabilities.
Baruwa articulated, “I believe there is nothing wrong in giving another goalkeeper a chance when there is a problem with the one you are using.
We have seen enough of Francis Uzoho; I think it is time the coach gives a goalkeeper like Adebayo Adeleye a chance to prove himself.”
Echoing the sentiments of the former Shooting Stars’ goalkeeper, Dele Aiyenugba from Kwara United emphasized the imperative need for prompt change in the goalkeeping department to salvage the Eagles’ campaign.
Aiyenugba asserted, “The coach should make up his mind now and heed to calls for a change. We have someone like Adebayo Adeleye who is doing well with his club; why not give him a chance and let’s see what he can offer.”

Dosu Joseph, an Atlanta Olympic gold medallist, affirmed that Adebayo Adeleye’s current good form merits his selection as the Super Eagles’ first-choice goalkeeper.
He proposed, “If Uzoho is not doing well, which can happen to any player, then let the coach look elsewhere and bring in a replacement.
I am personally of the opinion that giving Adeleye a chance to prove himself will be the best decision for the coach.”
