Ex-Pro Squash Tourney: 75 Kids From 15 States Battle For Honours In Ilorin

Over 75 Kids, from over 15 over states will converge for the 5th edition of Ex-Pro Squash tourney in Ilorin, Sports247 reports.

The three-day championship, put together by the Ex-Squash Players Association of Nigeria (EX-PRO), includes categories for under 13, 15, and 17 players.

The event will take place at the newly built squash courts from August 15 to August 17 2024.

The tournament was officially inaugurated on Thursday, 15th August 2024, with a press conference attended by dignitaries, including the Executive Chairman of the Kwara Sports Commission, the Technical Director of the Nigeria Squash Federation, Mr. Jonah Attah, and Chairman of the Squash Ex-Professional Players Association, Miss Laurel Ojo.

In her opening remarks, Miss Ojo expressed the association’s commitment to promoting squash awareness and mentoring young players using the experience of former professionals. She thanked the federation, Kwara Sports Commission, Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi Foundation, and supporters like Prince Sola Adekunle, Mr. Femi Adeyemo, Femi Bakare, and others for their contributions.

She also urged the government to prioritize sports development to engage youth and provide employment opportunities.

The host, Kwara Sports Executive Chairman, Coach Bolakale Magaji, commended Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for investing in sports development and appreciated his efforts towards the newly constructed squash courts, regarded as the best in West Africa.

Mr. Jonah Attah, Technical Director of the Squash Federation, expressed optimism about the federation’s objectives of producing top athletes to represent Nigeria in the next Olympic Games, with a focus on winning medals at Los Angeles 2028.

The competition will reward the participating athletes with prizes, including trophies, medals, new squash rackets, school bags, & other items to motivate athletes to perform their best in all categories.
