The Ex-Internationals Cup, a tournament that brings together ex-Nigeria Internationals, kicked off with a resounding victory for FC Udeze over FC Elahor.
The match ended in a decisive 4-0 win for FC Udeze, with goals from Ebuka Ogbonna, who scored twice, Stephen Okpehi, and Uzezi Oghenevo.
FC Udeze’s coach, Ifeanyi Udeze, expressed his delight at the team’s performance in a post-match interview with Sports247. “Yes, I feel great. I feel happy. I won my first game against FC Elahor. Interesting game. Both sides put in a lot of effort,” he said.
Udeze, who believes his team is more mature, is already looking forward to the second leg of the match. He confidently predicted a 5-0 victory when FC Elahor visits their home ground. “When they come to our home, dem go chop 5 goals,” he said, adding that he had already informed his counterpart of his expectations.
Despite the impressive victory, Udeze expressed a slight disappointment that his team did not “spell Elahor” – a term used when a team scores as many goals as there are letters in the opponent’s name. However, he promised to achieve this feat in the second leg. “When they come to our home, I will spell Elahor. Spell Elahor complete. Then put dots,” he said.
As the Ex-International Football Cup continues, all eyes will be on the second leg of the opening match. With the likes of Elahor at the helm, the tournament promises to be a showcase of not just football talent, but also the enduring spirit of mentorship and community that defines Nigerian football.
