The maiden edition of Nigeria Ex-Internationals Cup organised by Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) got underway with an exciting match between FC Udeze and FC Elaho that ended in a decisive 4-0 victory for FC Udeze.
Despite the defeat, FC Elaho’s coach, Friday Elahor, remained optimistic about his team’s performance and their chances in the second leg.
In a post-match interview with Sports247, Elaho praised his young team’s effort and acknowledged the experience of the Udeze team. “For me it was a good game and you know, my boys, they were younger than the Udeze team… But that doesn’t mean it’s just, you know, to have fun and, you know, get the game going,” he said.
Looking ahead to the second leg, Elahor expressed confidence in his team’s ability to turn the result around. “We can also go there and score four goals… And maybe I will add some mature players to my team and, you know, get the result,” he added.
Elaho also praised the concept of the Nigeria Ex-Internationals Cup, describing it as a “very good leadership.” He commended the organizers for providing an opportunity for ex-internationals to mentor young talents and keep everyone engaged in the sport. “They have done well for the ex-international and again it is just for us to meet again and make the game going,” he said.
As the Ex-International Football Cup continues, all eyes will be on the second leg of the opening match. With the likes of Elahor at the helm, the tournament promises to be a showcase of not just football talent, but also the enduring spirit of mentorship and community that defines Nigerian football.
