Europa League: Iwobi to debut in European final

Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi is the only Nigerian to make the European finals this season as Arsenal beat Valencia 4-2 on Thursday night and 7-3 on aggregate to ensure their progress to the finals.

The Nigerian was an unused substitute at the Mestalla as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a hat-trick that ended initial fears of a potential comeback.

The 23-year-old and his teammates would seek to correct their top four failings in the Premier League with a European trophy that has eluded them for so long when they face Chelsea in an all-English final.

“Top Performance From The Boys Tonight. Final Push #LetsGo,” Iwobi tweeted after the game.

In all competitions, Iwobi has scored four goals and provided six assists, but has just one goal in 10 Europa league appearances this season.

Meanwhile, Iwobi is expected to report to Nigeria to prepare for the African Cup of Nations just after the finals of the Europa league on May 29 at the Olympic Stadium, Baku.
