Super Eagles’ coach, Eric Sekou Chelle has reportedly agreed to live
within the borders of Nigeria, in order to watch matches at all levels of the domestic league, Sports247 has gathered.
This much was revealed by no less a person than the secretary-general of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Mohammed Sanusi, who added that Chelle is eager to traverse the nooks and crannies of the country in order to feel fans’ passion for the round leather game all across the land.
Sanusi also disclosed that the NFF is backing Chelle all the way towards making his efforts count, as the Franco-Malian gaffer is keen on watching games in the top-flight Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and the second-tier division, Nigeria National League (NNL).
The NFF scribe added that the football governing is working in liaison with top officials in government towards making the Super Eagles get the best preparations ahead of their forthcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda in Kigali on March 21st and versus Zimbabwe in Uyo four days later.
He disclosed, “All hands are already on deck for this month’s matches. There is a very good synergy between Nigeria Football Federation, National Sports Commission and the federal government of Nigeria, including the major stakeholders, to ensure we fare well in the qualifying matches. We are not leaving any stone unturned.”
Sanusi then disclosed the personal sacrifices that Chelle is committing himself to, in order to ensure he not only starts well against Rwanda and Zimbabwe but also to have something concrete to show for his expected long term stay with the Nigerian national team.
“The coach is on the ground and one good part of it is that he is staying in Nigeria. That will help him know all the nooks and crannies of the country; as he plans to visit venues where matches of the premier league are being played.
“He will be able to go and watch the premier league, after which he will trickle down to the national league. As far as all his plans are concerned, we are working hand-in-hand with the coach, the National Sports Commission and the federal government,” Sanusi reassured.
