Arsenal and Chelsea are set to miss out on Lille star Victor Osimhen as he is heading to Napoli in a £74million deal, according to reports in Italy.
According to Football Italia, Osimhen will complete his move to the San Paolo Stadium in the next 48 hours and is set to have his medical on Thursday.
The report suggests a move to Napoli would’ve happened sooner but claims the player’s agent saw the move held up.
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have a good rapport with Lille considering their respective business with the Ligue 1 club in recent years – with the Gunners signing Nicolas Pepe last year while the Blues shelled out for Eden Hazard in 2012.
However, with the price agreed upon, Napoli will have their man who will join Dries Merterns and Lorenzo Insigne in attack.
The 21-year-old has been in stellar form for the Ligue 1, with the forward scoring 13 goals in 25 appearances as Lille finished the 2019-20 season in fourth place.
Lille owner Gerard Lopez revealed at the end of May that ‘multiple offers’ have been made for the Nigerian before manager Christophe Galtier confirmed last month that Osimhen will be moving on.
The Lille manager said in a press conference:”Regarding Victor and Gabriel (Magalhaes), yes, I’ve known for a long time that they’re leaving.”
“They’re working hard with us in the meantime. We’re working on the players who are currently here and those likely to replace them, Of course, the club is working to replace him [Osimhen].”
Osimhen only signed for the Ligue 1 club last year from Charleroi, after impressing on loan at the Belgian side in the 2018-19 season.
