Joe Aribo came off the bench to score his first Premier League goal for Southampton in their 2-2 draw against Leeds United on Saturday.
With Southampton already down 2-0, Aribo was brought on in place of Mohamed Elyounoussi. The 26-year-old wasted little time in making an impact by scoring in the 72nd minute to bring his side back into the back.
Adam Armstrong found Aribo with a neat pass inside the box, and the Nigerian international dribbled past the onrushing Leeds goalkeeper before firing home with his right foot. The goal was his first for the club.
In the 81st minute, Sékou Mara’s defense-splitting pass set up Kyle Walker-Peters for the equalizing goal, and the game ended in a 2-2 stalemate.
Elsewhere in the English top flight, Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho’s Leicester City lost 4-2 against Arsenal. Ndidi lasted the duration of the game while Iheanacho came off the bench to assist his side’s second goal in the defeat.
Leicester with 1 point from their first two games will host Southampton next Saturday.
Alex Iwobi’s Everton fell to their second straight defeat of the season following a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa earlier on.
