Inform striker, Victor Mbaoma scored Enyimba’s lone goal as the People’s Elephant lost to relegation struggling MFM F.C in Ijebu Ode in the Matchday 34 of the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) to slip in their race for a continental football next season.
The first half of the encounter ended in a goalless draw as the players of both teams were unsuccessful in their attempt to break each other’s solid defense line.
However, Enyimba finally had a breakthrough in the 52nd through Victor Mboama as he put into the net Christian Ekong’s flicked ball to put the Aba Warriors in the lead and increased his league season’s goal tally to 16.
Twelve minutes later, Oladayo Alabi equalized from the spotkick to level the game. In a turn of events, Nduka scored in the 75th to put MFM in the lead for the very first time in the match.
The Olukoya Boys were 2-1 victorious after 90minutes of action at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode, Ogun state to earn an important three points in their battle for survival.
Enyimba slipped to 6th on the NPFL log with 52 points while MFM F.C remained at the bottom of the table with 36 points after 34 rounds of matches played so far.
Meanwhile in Akwa Ibom, Akwa United were unable to replicate their midweek state cup final victory against Dakkada F.C as the reigning NPFL champions were thrashed 3-1 by Dakkada to earn a vital three points in their fight for survival.
Samuel Amadi put Akwa United in the lead in the 38th minute but Dan Etido, Aniekan Ekpe, Enobong Ezekiel scored in the 41’, 54’ and 84’ respectively to give Dakkada a well deserved victory.
Akwa United remains 8th on the NPFL table with 48 points while Dakkada sits 17th just ahead of 18th placed Heartland F.C due to goal difference superiority.
For results of other fixtures for the matchday 34, Remo Stars defeated Lobi Stars 3-1 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne while second placed Plateau United played a one-all draw against Gombe United.
Kwara United pipped Sunshine Stars of Akure by a lone goal at the Kwara States Sports Complex in Ilorin. Junior Lokosa netted the only goal of the encounter as relegation strugglers Heartland F.C also defeated 14th placed Katsina United by the same score line.
Abia Warriors were 3-2 victorious against Kano Pillars on Saturday while Enugu Rangers and Rivers United played a barren draw on Saturday also.
However, 15th placed Niger Tornadoes defeated Nasarawa United 1-0 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. Jimmy Abdul scored the only goal of the match.
In the top half of the table, Rivers United missed out on a chance to become the league champions early after they were held to a goalless draw by Enugu Rangers yesterday but are 10 points ahead of 2nd placed Plateau United with 61 points while Remo Stars and Enugu Rangers sit 3rd and 4th on the NPFL table with 53 points and 52 points respectively.
While in the relegation zone, Heartland F.C, Kano Pillars and MFM F.C occupy the 18th, 19th, 20th positions on the table with 40 points, 39 points and 36 points respectively.
