Enyimba advanced to the final of the Governor Ikpeazu Pre Season Tournament with a 1-0 win over Plateau United thanks to a goal by substitute Cyril Olisema at the Enyimba International Stadium on Saturday.
The former Akwa United midfielder hit the only goal in the 69th minute that glanced past a stranded Adamu Abubakar.
Uche Onwusoanya orchestrated an attacking move, the midfielder laid the ball to Sunday Adetunji who set up Isah Ndala. The former Nasarawa United’s ace saw his effort well gathered comfortably by the People’s Elephants goalie Bassa Djeri.
It was an end to end stuff on the part of the two sides who performed to expectations in Aba.
Sunday Adetunji was on the verge of breaking the deadlock, but Enyimba defender Nelson Ogbonnaya came to the rescue with a great block.
Enyimba head coach Fatai Osho then threw on Cyril Olisema and Sadiq Abubakar. These substitutions were inspiring ones.
The People’s Elephants finally broke the deadlock in the 69th minute through Cyril Olisema who netted a great goal.
Abubakar kept the Peace Boys in the game with some important saves and denied Victor Mbaoma in the 73rd minute from close range.
Olisema’s strike proved to be the decisive goal as the Aba based side held on to their narrow lead to advance to the final.
