Nigerian-US-based football coach; Anthony Ushurhe has expressed confidence that Enyimba Football Club of Aba, Nigeria would go far in the ongoing Africa Confederation Cup.
Ushurhe said this after Nigeria’s club representative defeated Orlando Pirates Football Club of South Africa 1-0 in the last group match played at Aba International Stadium, Abia State. Their victory booked them in a place in the quarter-final of the competition.
The draw of the African Confederation Cup quarter-finals held on Friday puts Egypt’s Pyramids FC to face Nigerian-side Enyimba.
Reacting to the draw, Ushurhe said Enyimba have what it takes to win their opponents if they can put their act together.
He admitted that the Egyptian club are very tactically good but noted that Enyimba can get a good result in the first leg against Pyramids FC and complete it in their home ground.
“For you to be champions, you must play the toughest team in the competition. Enyimba still need work to do if they want to win the trophy. If they can get a good result in an away match against Pyramids FC, they have the opportunity to complete it in their home. I wish them the best of luck in their outing,” he said.
The Delta-born coach who has a degree in coaching sports fitness & health and United State coaching license believes that Nigerian football can be better if all hands are on deck. He said Enyimba should be given the necessary support at both state and federal levels to achieve their glory.
Ushurhe, a former coach of Lagos-based amateur club, Messiah FC said the club always fails if there are no proper preparations but commended Enyimba FC despite their challenges to qualify for the quarter-final stage.
“I know that Enyimba FC faced a lot of challenges but yet they still qualified for the quarter-final. It is not easy to reach this stage but my appeal to the government is to support the club so that they can go far or possibly win the laurel for the country, “ he said.
