Ebere Amaraizu, Chairman, Enugu State Taekwondo Association, has recommended the learning, practice and principles of taekwondo for protection of the girl-child against cases of social molestation as well as assault, especially from older males within the society.
Ebere Amazu explained that taekwondo as a sport is beyond what people know about it as a sport but a very good self-protective sport weapon to keep the victim in self-defence.
“Taekwondo has a cutting edge over all other sports because of its positive foundation which is anchored in its tenets of integrity, indomitable spirit, discipline, survival skills and self-defence.
“For the girl-child, it gives her self-defence, self-protection and self-control capabilities among others against all forms of molestation,’’ he said.
Amaraizu, who is the National Coordinator of Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), maintained that taekwondo teaches self-confidence and hard work as well and also advocates for the Ministries of Education as well as Youth and Sports Development to have proper liaison that would see to the establishment of taekwondo kiddies/schools club in various schools and colleges.
