It was the end of the road for Edo Queens in the 2024 CAF Women Champions League as TP Mazembe defeated Nigeria’s champion 3-1 in the semi final on Tuesday, Sports247 reports.
The Nigerians failed to see out a game they dominated throughout the second half after priceless midfielder Emem Essien Peace gave Edo Queens the lead in the 65 th minute against the run of play.
In the ninety minutes, the Nigeria’s champions allowed TP Mazembe to come back via a corner kick to restore parity through Mervielle Kajinga header from close range.
The spirited Mazembe ladies grew in energy and might as they outmuscled their flexible Nigerian counterpart as they scored two goals in the extra time .
Folorunsho turned a goal in her own net before the VAR confirmed Folorunsho fouled Marlene Kasaj in the box, which she coolly converted the resultant penalty to give TP Mazembe 3-1 advatange going into second half of the extra time.
The Nigerians puff and huff but to no avail as the defensive discipline of the congolese prevailed and ended the game in the favour of booking a place in the final in their appearance of the CAF Women Champions League.
Edo Queens failed in their attempt to become the first Nigerian side to play in the final or win the cup and they will settle for a bronze medal match against FC Massar on Friday.
