Emmanuel Okocha: NFF politics made me quit Super Eagles

Former Nigerian international, Emmanuel Okocha has stated the reasons why he quitted the national team after having a good stints in the green and white colours.

Emmanuel Okocha is the elder brother of former Super Eagles captain, Jay Jay Okocha.

Chatting with the Super Eagles media via Instagram live, the former Enugu Rangers star said he had to quit the national team for good reasons.

“After I recovered fully from my injury I sustained during the 1992 AFCON qualifiers, Westerhof invited me for some friendlies before the 1994 World Cup. I was playing well and could have made the squad, then something happened, the NFF at that time could not stand two brothers in the team because Jay Jay was in there as well, I had to leave and move on with my life.”

The 50 year old narrated why education is necessary for footballers in this day.

” This is why I tell young footballers to have at least education to secondary school with good grades because it was what helped me. After the Super Eagles, I went back to school, got my B.SC and M.SC in sports management.”

He added that he got license to be an agent amidst different courses he went for.

“I am a FIFA licensed agent, I went for so many courses as well. So leaving the super eagles was not a problem.”
