2013 African Cup of Nations winner, Emmanuel Emenike has declared that Nigerian football legend, Kanu Nwankwo was an inspiration to their triumph at the 2013 AFCON in South Africa.
Emenike who was live on Instagram on Sunday said Kanu was one of the reasons the Super Eagles were able to defeat Ivory Coast in the quarter finals of the competition.
‘one of the reasons I was in fine form against CIV and one of the reasons we won was Kanu Nwankwo. He came to our hotel spoke to us and chatted with me seperately for 15minutes’.
The former Spartak Moscow striker narrated that everyone including the NFF officials were scared before the clash with the Elephants.
‘ before the match, every one was scared. All of us (players) were panicking. Even the NFF were coming to our rooms to ask us for traveling exit routes from South Africa so they can buy tickets’.
The Super Eagles defeated Ivory Coast 2-1 in the quarter finals and we’re eventual winners of the tournament.
Emmanuel Emenike finished as the highest goal scorer of the tournament with 4 goals and making the team of the tournament alongside 4 other Super Eagles players.
