The deputy president of All Sports Supporters Club of Nigeria, Alhaji Jimoh Musiliu Alao has disclosed how his efforts in mobilising fans to cheer Ikorodu City FC propelled the club to third position in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) and he then predicted that they will soon be on top.
Speaking against the backdrop of last Sunday’s 4-1 demolition of visiting Akwa United of Uyo at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos Island, the owner of Lower division side, Emiloju FC said the shock result was a confirmation of what the support of fans can do for a youthful team.
The Emiloju FC owner further told sports247.ng emphatically, “This shows that Ikorodu is back totally. It also shows that, when we have good players, we don’t cheat to get results in Lagos again.
“These players are now giving their fans what they need … which is winning.
“Lobi came here and we beat them. Rivers they came, El-Kanemi, and many more. Shooting Stars were also here and now Akwa United.”
While highlighting the power of fans’ support in propelling The Oga Boys up the table, Alhaji Alao also cited the youthful nature of Ikorodu City’s players and their determination to excel in the NPFL.
“Go and check, all the players in Ikorodu, both bench and first eleven, they are ready.
“Some people said the second stanza of the season will be tough for us, but I know it won’t be hard for us.
“It won’t be hard because these boys are young, and they are ready to play,” Alao enthused.
He then explained the role he has been playing personally in order to ensure that the NPFL debutants do not lack massive support during all their home fixtures.
“From day one, anytime they are at home, I am here fully on the ground to support them to victory.
“I am happy with the CEO of Ikorodu City, Honourable Sanmi. He is giving enough support in transport, refreshments and everything needed for us to be here.
“Even the academy boys always come around, and I mobilise many people around me to be at the match venue as the 12th player for Ikorodu City.
“Everybody can feel us. We don’t shake. Whether losing or winning, we give support to the end of the game. That’s why we will top the table very soon,” Alao predicted.
