In a shocking statement, Emilio Nsué López, the Golden Boot winner of the AFCON tournament, revealed the alarming state of affairs within the Equatorial Guinean Football Association (F.A).
He disclosed that before their crucial match against Nigeria, the players lacked proper outfits, and equipment expenses were borne by the players themselves, not the Federation.

“These cancerous and corrupt individuals managing football in Equatorial Guinea pocketed 1 million euros for themselves, leaving the national team in dire conditions.”
Furthermore, López exposed the FA’s unethical practices, alleging threats towards local players to extract money from them.
Despite his refusal to comply with these unjust demands, López faced humiliation and was subsequently ousted from the team.
Expressing his dismay, López criticized the FA’s intention to alter the sports project by introducing Brazilian players, disregarding the team’s standing as the tenth best on the African continent.
He condemned the pervasive corruption within the FA, highlighting outstanding debts owed to players and pervasive embezzlement.
Additionally, López lamented the lack of recognition and appreciation from his own country, revealing that the sole congratulations he received for his Golden Boot award came from Ivorian authorities.
This ungrateful treatment from his homeland left López feeling disheartened and undervalued despite his remarkable achievement.
His revelations shed light on the dire need for reform within the Equatorial Guinean football administration, emphasizing the importance of transparency, fairness, and respect for players’ rights and contributions.
