Chairman of Abia Warriors football club, Pastor Emeka Inyama has revealed that NPFL players must change their mentality before they can be called up into the national team.
Inyama, a former chairman of the Nigeria National League said “The players have a mindset already that the gateway to stardom is playing outside here (Nigeria); It’s so unfortunate and that mentality must stop.”
The former board member of Nigeria Football Federation said the best legs in the country keeps flying out and that is the reason why NPFL players are not invited to the national team.
“It is possible if our good players can even play two seasons. Amateur players even worry their families to sell land to give to agents to ferry them abroad. Its a shame.”
He further suggested that exposing these players periodically via friendly matches will go a long way.
“Let’s have a coach for homebased who should be doing periodic camping and exposing them to friendlies both home and abroad. Then Rohr will have a pool to give opportunity. Create the right atmosphere and give them the confidence.” He said.
There have been several arguments on why Gernot Rohr has not been inviting NPFL players to the national team.
