In a bid to breathe new life into organized youth football, the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Board has instituted a seven-member Youth League Committee tasked with orchestrating the 2023/24 NPFL Youth League.

The NPFL Chairman, Hon Gbenga Elegbeleye made the announcement of this significant development on Monday emphasizing the league’s commitment to ensuring that each NPFL club is equipped with a competitive youth team.
The NPFL Club Licensing Regulations, as emphasized by Elegbeleye, dictate that every licensed club must have a youth team participating in the Youth League.
This initiative is designed to serve as a crucible for nurturing the next generation of NPFL players, offering a structured pathway from the youth ranks to the senior level.

“As some players get older and others move abroad, the Youth League becomes a crucial transition structure, providing the country with viable options in youth development football across U-15, U-17, and U-20 levels,” emphasized Elegbeleye in his statement to NPFL Media.
The committee’s composition reflects a diverse array of football expertise, including Barrister Paul Ede, Chairman of Benue State Football Association, ex-international Patrick Paschal, Sabo Abdullahi Eka, Nicholas Morris Kemeghde, and Gafar Liameed, the Lagos State FA Vice Chairman and proprietor of NNL Side, 36 Lions. Dr Sunday Obaseki, NPFL Head of Competitions, assumes the crucial role of Secretary.
NPFL Chairman Elegbeleye also revealed that the NPFL Youth League is slated to occur during the one-week mid-season break. This event holds significant importance as it serves to determine qualifiers for a national championship playoff.
This strategic move marks a milestone in NPFL’s broader vision for comprehensive football development.
