Former director general of then National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye has given a pat on the back to the country’s contingent to the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Although Team Nigeria could only get one gold medal and three silver at the Games, Elegbeleye told sports247.ng that the country’s outing was not bad.
Elegbeleye then advised that all the athletes that won medals and those that distinguished themselves with good performances should be put into a talent development programme that would make them useful for the country in the near future.
“I give them kudos for what they were able to do in Argentina,” said Elegbeleye. “It is a sign of better things for the future of our sports.
“Those who won medals and other ones that distinguished themselves should now be put into a system that would aid their development.
“Those that showed promise, even without winning medals, should also be monitored for proper development.”
