Ekpoma Supernova Earn First Win As Emotan Queens Maintain Perfect Run In Edo State Female Cricket League

It was a thrilling weekend of action in the ongoing Edo State Female Cricket League, as Ekpoma Supernova Cricket Club secured their first victory of the campaign in dramatic fashion, while Emotan Queens continued their unbeaten run with another dominant display.

At the Centre of Excellence for Women’s Cricket, Iyoba Girls College, Ugbowo, Ekpoma Supernova edged Idia Royals Cricket Club by just two runs in a tense finish to claim their maiden win of the competition.

Winning the toss, Ekpoma Supernova elected to bat first, posting 47 runs all out after 18 overs. Though the total appeared modest, their disciplined bowling and sharp fielding proved decisive.

Idia Royals began their chase confidently, reaching 39 runs for 5 wickets in 10 overs before a stunning Supernova comeback saw them lose their remaining wickets within four overs — falling short by just two runs.

Speaking after the match, Coach Emmanuel Eromosele praised his players for their resilience and fighting spirit.

“It was a good win today. Coming from yesterday’s defeat, it seemed like we might lose again, but the team spirit kept us going. With trust and resilience, we were able to pull through,” he said.

Team Captain, Peculiar Agboya, also expressed delight at the result, commending the younger players for their contribution.

“It was an awesome experience. We worked together to achieve one goal, and we’re happy with the victory. We’ll build on this going forward,” she said.

Meanwhile, at the High Performance Centre, Edo Boys High School, Ugbowo, Emotan Queens extended their winning streak with a comprehensive victory over Adolor Amazons in a low-scoring encounter.

Batting first, the Amazons were bowled out for just 20 runs after 12 overs. Emotan Queens comfortably chased the target, scoring 21 runs in just three overs with four wickets down to seal a quick victory.

Emotan Queens’ coach, Osamudiamen Ikpomwen, lauded his team’s performance but emphasized the need for continued improvement.

“It’s a good day for us — two games, two wins. The girls are happy, but we can always do better. We’ll review our performance and work on both our bowling and batting to stay consistent,” he said.

The league continues on Saturday, October 18, with Emotan Queens facing Ekpoma Supernova at the Centre of Excellence, while Adolor Amazons take on Idia Royals at the High Performance Centre.

The top two teams after the round-robin stage will contest the final on Sunday, October 19, while the bottom two sides will battle for third place.

The competition continues to spotlight the growing standard of women’s cricket in Edo State — a testament to the state’s commitment to grassroots sports development
