After four weeks of First Round action in the EkoFootball League 2020/2021, the Second Round resumes at all designated venues in the five football divisions in Lagos on Saturday, June 5, 2021, with four matches to be played across the board.
At the French Village, Badagry, New Era FC will take on Opopoona Iwa Mimo FC in the opening second-round game with revenge on the mind of Opopoona Iwa Mimo that lost their last home game 0 -1 against New Era.
Despite the 1-0 victory over Opopoona Iwa Mimo, New Era finished the first round with four points from four matches, winning only one game just like all the four teams in Group A.
New Era Fc first assignment, most definitely will be to get out of the bottom of the Group A table where they finished in the first round, while Opopoona Iwa Mimo would want to consolidate on the third-place finish at the end of the first round.
Another Group A second-round game would see the first-round second-placed team Alex Transfiguration FA slug it out with Shola FC on Saturday, at the Iraye Pitch, Epe.
In their last first-round encounter, the two teams ended their match in a stalemate playing a 1-1 draw. Saturday’s match will be a different ball game as the two teams would want to start on a winning note to pave the way for them in the second round to qualify for the final round of the league.
In Group B second-round fixtures, first-round second-placed team, Papa Soccer FA battle against third-placed team Diamonds Stars, at the Epe Recreational Field.
Papa Soccer FA ran away with a 1-0 win in the home ground of Diamond Stars, in their last Round One game.
In the last game of the second-round opener, Little Wonders that lost their last match to Vino Gano Fc 3-2 on home ground, will be out for revenge. This may be a difficult task as the Taiwo Oloyede-tutored Vino Gano cannot afford not to continue in their strides to be one of the teams for the final round. The Little Wonders versus Vino Gano cracker will be played at the Ikeja Cantonment Football Field.
The two top teams YG FC and Young Stars are on bye this week, as the Lagos Football Association has announced that the Second Round of the EkoFootball League 2020/2021 ends on June 19.
