The Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Micheal Awopetu has unveiled the giant trophy for the fast approaching Oba Ademola Ajakaiye Memorial Under 13 Football Competition.
The organizing committee for the tournament in the company of its adviser and some executive of the Ekiti State Football Association presented the trophy to the commissioner in his office.
The sports commissioner who was obviously elated for the privilege to be the first to unveil the imported trophy lifted it to the admiration of other personalities in attendance with an assurance to give all necessary support before, during, and after the tournament.
He also assured that the sports-loving governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi will be properly briefed about the Oba Ademola Ajakaiye Memorial Under 13 Football Competition with an assurance that the governor will give maximum support.
The Adviser to the organizing committee, Elder Kester Oyewole congratulated the youth and sports Commissioner on being the first to unbundle the trophy which was sent to Nigeria from the UK.
Elder Oyewole on behalf of the family of Oba Ademola Ajakaiye called for more support for the competition saying the government could not do everything all alone, hence the need for individuals and corporate bodies to partner government in youth and Sports Development.
The Chairman, Ekiti State Football Association, Mr. Bayo Olanlege who led two other board members to the Commissioner’s office said the FA will leave no stone unturned to ensure a glamorous tournament designed to posthumously honor the sports-loving Oba Ademola Ajakaiye of Iyin-Ekiti.
Activities for the competition will continue on Tuesday next week with a public unveiling at Iyin Ekiti.
Registration for the competition begins next week Thursday while hostilities involving all the 16 local government areas in the state will begin on March 7.
