Despite being relatively new to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, Ekiti Queens has managed to make a strong impression this season.
A standout performer in their squad is Salaudeen Rashidat, a midfielder who has modeled her game after Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade.
Known for her distinct identity and consistency, Rashidat has been instrumental for the Ado-Ekiti-based side.
The hijab-wearing midfielder has earned praise not just for her composure on the pitch but also for her discipline off it, marking her as a player with a promising future.
During a chat with our correspondent in Lagos following Ekiti Queens’ 1-1 draw against Dannaz Ladies FC last Wednesday, Rashidat opened up about her ambitions and gave an honest assessment of her team’s performance in the league so far.
“Actually, we’ve not been doing well, but we needed a point in this game, which is why I tried to score,” she told Sports247, reflecting on her goal that earned her team a crucial point.
When asked about the possibility of Ekiti Queens securing a Super Six playoff spot, she responded candidly: “To be honest, I don’t think we can get the Super Six slot, but we have to finish well.”
However, Rashidat did not hide her personal aspirations.
“Though I would welcome the chance to play for a team in the Super Six playoffs, our target for the remaining games is to play well, and hopefully, my team will also perform well.” Rashidat said.
The Kwara Indigene, popularly known as Rashey Baller, also shared her dreams of representing Nigeria and playing professional football abroad.
“If I get the opportunity to play for the national team, I will grab it. I really wish to represent Nigeria, and I’m also aspiring to play abroad.”
Currently, Ekiti Queens sit fourth in their group with 10 points, nine points behind third-placed Abia Angels.
With only three matches remaining in the regular season, overtaking Abia Angels for a playoff spot seems a near-impossible task.
Nonetheless, with talents like Salaudeen Rashidat in their ranks, Ekiti Queens have a solid foundation to build on for future seasons.
