Organized by Mr. Olufemi Aina, the coach of Ekiti Kete Baseball Club, this first-of-its-kind South-west U-12 tournament aims to provide young athletes with the tools needed to develop a positive mindset and enhance mental clarity.
The tournament showcased the growing popularity of baseball in Ekiti State. However, organizers emphasized the need for increased awareness and further development to fully establish the sport in the region.
Mr. Olufemi Aina highlighted the significance of the event, stating, “This tournament is not just about competition; it’s about giving children the opportunity to learn valuable life skills through sports. Baseball teaches discipline, teamwork, and focus, which are essential for their overall growth.”
The event was well-received by participants and spectators alike, marking a promising start for future youth baseball activities in the state. The tournament also served as a platform for young athletes to display their talents and for coaches to scout potential future stars.
The Youth Inclusion Office, under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, remains committed to supporting such initiatives. “We will ensure that our youth are seen, heard, valued, and supported,” stated Ayò Òjó, the Governor’s Technical Assistant on Youth Inclusion.
The success of this tournament is a testament to the dedication of the Ekiti Kete Baseball Club and the commitment of the state to nurturing young talent. Future plans include expanding the tournament and increasing participation from other states, fostering a more robust baseball culture in the region.
