The Ekiti State Football Association held its valedictory Annual General Assembly, Thursday, December 22, 2022, and deliberated on several issues, as it concerns the Ekiti Football Ecosystem.
In the communique released after the well attended meeting held at the Shores Complex, Peace House, Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti FA Congress resolved amongst other important issues to express its appreciation the Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, and former Governor Kayode Fayemi, for their earnest supports as pillars of transformation in the development of youths, using sports as a tool in Ekiti State. The Congress also urged Governor Oyebanji and his administration, to remember his promise to take sports development to a greater heights, with the setting up of the Ekiti State Sports Commission.
The Ekiti FA also expressed deep appreciation to the Ekiti FA Grand Patron, Mr. O’Seun Odewale; Patron, Hon. Akintunde Oyebode; the Patroness, Mrs. Peju Babafemi and Patrons of the Local Football Council, LFCs, for their unwavering support and guidance to the association.
The Congress also congratulated and lauded the efforts of the Nigeria Football Federation led by the new President, Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, for some of the successes recorded by the National teams in recent times. In the same vein, the Congress expressed its appreciation to the leadership of the Ekiti State Sports Council, especially the General Manager, Mr Kunle Adeyemi, for their steadfastness, exemplary leadership and warm relationship with the Ekiti FA.
In line with its avowed determination to engender a sustainable football ecosystem, the Ekiti FA congress further appreciates all its affiliates, including clubs, local organizations and those playing in various national leagues. Adding that the association will continue to do its best to give adequate support to the affiliates.
After extensive deliberations, introspection and in line with the provisions of Article 4(1) (2) (3) and Article 9(1) of NFF Statute, 2010, Article 3(1) & (2), Article 14(1) (a), Article 27(m) of EKSFA Statute 2015, the Ekiti FA Congress, resolved and subsequently suspended Agbaje Olu, Moji Adekanye, Bello Mustapha, Adesina Oguntuashe, B. O. Babatola, Segun Adelakun and Lanre Ajayi, indefinitely from further taking any part in football related matters and activities in Ekiti State, for their gross violation of the provisions of the Statutes and other extant laws governing football, consequent upon which they cease to be stakeholders in the Ekiti State Football Association.
The communique further revealed that the Congress approved the proposed plans and budget of the Ekiti State Football Association, for 2023, especially the elective assembly, scheduled for May, 2023, to choose a new leadership.
As the current leadership of the FA winds down, the Congress agreed on intensifying efforts to build capacities in the ecosystem, starting from the local football councils and among the respective club managers and owners in Ekiti State, and exposing them to more developed climes with a view of taking the game to the next level of development in Ekiti State.
Present at the Annual Congress were the 16 local football councils delegates; Nigeria Coaches Association, Ekiti State Chapter; Ekiti State Referees Council; Nigeria Football Supporters Club, Ekiti State Chapter, and
Professional Football Association of Nigeria, Ekiti State Chapter.
