Eight football clubs are set for the ‘My Anambra Football’ Super 8 football finals scheduled for between March 29th to April 3rd, 2021. A special seminar for the participating teams and relevant football stakeholders held on Wednesday at the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) Secretariat Udoka Housing Estate Awka with the draws also conducted for the competition which would be in a round-robin format.
The eight participating teams were drawn into two groups. Group A has Ifechikwulu FC Omor, Konti FC Umunnachi, Rangers FC Achina and Pope John Paul FC Okpuno while Group B has Smith City FC Awka, Mekon FC Umunze, Golden Boys FC Onitsha and GP World FA Nnewi.
Speaking to sportswriters, Chairman of the Super 8 organizing committee and a member of the ANSFA Board, Prince Oliver Ndigwe stated that the draws ceremony was to place the eight qualified teams into a group of two as the tournament will be played in a round-robin format. The ex-Rangers player also said that part of the event was a seminar to inundate the club sides on what is expected of them before, during, and after the tournament.
According to Ndigwe, Chuba Ikpeazu Stadium will host the group matches while the Neros Stadium Nanka will host the semifinals and Grand Finale. He also highlighted that out of the eight teams, four teams would qualify for the semifinals and finals of the tournament, he urged the participating teams to exhibit and show the spirit of sportsmanship as the competition is not a do or die affair but a platform to nurture and expose hidden talents in the state via showcasing the club sides.
Ndigwe commended the benefactor of the competition, Aspire FC Adazi-Ani, for a great job and course in taking Anambra Football to the next level. He revealed that eight players were unveiled during the draws ceremony as part of measures put in place to help strengthen the participating teams during the transfer window, with the newly acquired players drawn from the 27 clubs who earlier registered for the competition from the three senatorial zones in the state.
In her remarks, Brand Manager of Aspire FC, Chidimma Ezeasor, emphasized that the tournament was a well-articulated measure to drive football, develop talents, nurture young and upcoming stars as well as build confidence in our youths. Ezeasor added that the competition provides an immense platform for the players aspiring to be professionals as it would equip them for the task ahead, even as cash prizes await teams including a Nationwide Division Two slot for the eventual winner of the competition.
