The fierce rivalry between Africa’s top table tennis nations, Egypt and Nigeria, will take centre stage once again at the 2024 ITTF African Championships, scheduled to run from October 12 to 19 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
This prestigious event returns to Ethiopia after a 24-year hiatus, serving as qualifiers for the 2024 ITTF Mixed Team Cup in China and the 2025 World Championships in Qatar.

Teams will compete across multiple categories, including Men’s and Women’s Teams, Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles, and Mixed Doubles.
Egypt, the reigning champions, will face strong competition from Nigeria, their long-standing rivals, along with other formidable teams like Tunisia and Algeria.
Khaled El-Salhy, President of the African Table Tennis Federation (ATTF), expressed confidence in Ethiopia’s ability to host the event, citing their successful organization of the 2023 Eastern Regional Championships.
“We believe the Ethiopia Table Tennis Federation has the experience to ensure a smooth tournament,” El-Salhy said, praising the country’s preparations.
With qualification spots for the 2025 World Championships in Qatar up for grabs, the stakes are high, and the level of competition promises to be intense.
All eyes will be on Egypt and Nigeria as they renew their storied rivalry in what is expected to be a thrilling tournament in Addis Ababa.
