Enyimba Head Coach Stanley Eguma says he knows what to expect from Al Masry ahead of the crucial clash on Sunday, Sports247 reports.
Speaking ahead of the crucial CAF Confederation encounter, the coach says based on his past encounters with Al Masry, as the coach of Rivers United, he knows the type of football to expect from North African side and his team is prepared for them.
“I’ve faced them in the past as a coach, and I know their antecedents. I know the kind of football they play.” Eguma told Enyimba’s official website.
“Judging from the past experience, we played them in 2021 in Aba. We beat them 2-1. They play a typical North African fast-paced football anchored on long thrusts. And they have players who want to make a name for themselves.”
“They are equally well-motivated with lots of incentives.”
“I know they are coming here (Uyo) to see if they can salvage a draw by bringing their antics, slowing down the game, especially when the scoreline is in their favour.”
“But we will guard against those things and ensure that we don’t give them room for that, and also make sure that we get the maximum points.”
The People’s Elephant, put themselves back to reckoning in the group with a impressive 4-1 win against Black Bulls of Mozambique a week ago in Uyo, a few days after Stanley Eguma took over the job and another win today is crucial to their ambition of making it into the quarter finals of the competition.
The veteran coach spoke on how the players are adapting to his philosophy and tactics ahead of the must win game later today in Uyo.
“Being new in the team and trying to study the players and get them to understand my philosophy, I think we have come to the stage where understanding should be coming.”
The 5 pm kick off match is a must win for Enyimba which will see them leapfrog Almasry and they may end up in the second position in the group depending on the results of the other group match between Black Bull of Mozambique and Zamalek of Egypt .
