Super Eagles interim coach Austin Eguavoen has dismissed any notion of seeking revenge against Benin Republic in their upcoming qualifiers, emphasizing that his focus is on securing maximum points.

Eguavoen took charge after a turbulent period in Nigeria’s management and is determined to guide the team to victory in both crucial fixtures.
The build-up to the match has been fueled by Nigeria’s surprising 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic, then managed by former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr, back in June.
Despite the disappointment, Eguavoen is concentrating on the future and the team’s bid to qualify for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
“Our objective is clear: to collect six points from both matches. The players are well aware of this, and they’re fully committed,” Eguavoen said ahead of the match in Uyo. “Qualifiers are never easy, but we’ve spoken to the squad, and we’re all on the same page.”
Eguavoen downplayed any talk of revenge, focusing solely on achieving success in the upcoming games. “No one is talking about revenge. Our sole focus is on getting three points against Benin Republic on Saturday and then another three points in Kigali on Tuesday. These victories will set us on the right path toward qualification.”
The Super Eagles will face Benin Republic on September 7th in Uyo, before traveling to Kigali to meet Rwanda three days later. Eguavoen’s main challenge is to secure six points from these two matches and put Nigeria in a strong position for AFCON qualification, leaving past disappointments behind and building confidence for the future.
