Eguavoen Back Boniface To Overcome National Team Struggles If …

Super Eagles Augustine Eguavoen says Victor Boniface will soon overcome his national team goal scoring struggles but one condition after Nigeria defeated Libya by 1-0 in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match played on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Sports 247 reports.

Victor Boniface led the Super Eagles attack once again in the game against the Mediterranean Knights of Libya in the absence of Victor Osimhen but fired blank once again taking goalless streak to seven games in the Super Eagles colours.

The Bayern Leverkusen striker has scored only once in the Super Eagles colour in a Friendly against Saudi Arabia, about a year and has no competitive goal despite having a good return in the shirt of his German Club.

However, coach Austin Eguavoen believes the clinical finisher would soon overcome his struggles in front of goals in the national colours, that he only needs to be more decisive in dealing with half chances like Romario Farias of Brazil.

Romario Farias is a Brazilian Legendary striker has 784 career goals in 1002 matches to register his name as one of the most iconic strikers in the history of the game.

He played for Barcelona FC in the 90s and helped Brazil to win the FIFA World Cup in 1994 breaking a 24 year wait for Samba Boys.

“Boniface is a good finisher but struggles in national colours, sometimes these chances don’t come I remember in Rwanda and today ( Friday ) also.”

“Will he get a half chance? Anytime he gets the ball, he needs to decide fast, and look at Romario he pokes the ball but Boniface gets the ball and dress and dress”.
.

“I think he needs to decide on time I think Boniface will score a lot of goals if he decides fast, I will talk to him about that.” Augustine Eguavoen told the press during his post match interview.

The coach used the occasion to react to the hard fought victory of the Super Eagles.

“It’s a huge relief for me and the boys obviously. Three points is important for the team, we got it . The first goal didn’t come early due to the tactics deployed by the Libyans*

“The Libyans wasted about 15 minutes out of the 45 minutes, which is not too good. They are a good side, you can see they move well with the ball anytime they come out.”

“But I don’t think it’s a good thing. they should just play normally . You see when we score the goal, they came out but it was a bit late.”

“Maybe they over-respected us , they thought if they came out in the initial stage they would be hit with more goals behind them.”

“I don’t know if that’s the way they are or the way they want to play, but overall we are happy because the three points keep us at the top of the log, Eguavoen said.

Nigeria will play Libya on Tuesday, 15 October 2024 in the Matchday 4 of the 2025 AFCON qualifying series.
