Eguavoen Admits: We Need Creative Playmaker With Good Passes To Help Our Strikers Score

Super Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen has admitted that the Nigerian team needs a good playmaker who can spray accurate passes for the strikers to rain goals.

Sports247 reports that Eguavoen also acknowledged that many attackers in the Eagles are raining goals for their respective clubs, but find it hard doing so in the national team.

He posited that it is simply because the right passes are not coming through the middle, but went on to reveal that he is already working on the lapses ahead of the Eagles’ next game.

Eguavoen retorted, “Goals win games; we all know that. They are scoring goals in their clubs and they are scoring goals in training. When it comes to the game, they don’t score goals. Why? I keep asking the same question.”

The caretaker coach continued by revealing what he learnt from a cross-section of Eagles’ players he took up on the troubling issue.
“As people ask me, I also ask the players. Some of them say they need a person to put the ball into space for them, and they will score.

So, I’m still looking for such a player, who has the flair and creativity. A good playmaker who can put the ball into space for them to score,” Eguavoen disclosed.

His words might mean an impending exit from the Eagles’ mainframe for the like of Alex Iwobi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, just as it had been for Joe Aribo and Oghenekaro Etebo in recent months
