Super Eagles’ interim coach, Augustine Eguavoen has declared that his players will fight with all they have to win this week’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.
Heading into the encounter, which is scheduled to begin at 5pm on Friday at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Eguavoen stressed that all the players know what is at stake.

Sports247.ng reports further that the Eagles’ former defender and captain is equally confident of getting all three points in The Nest of Champions, as he declared that there is an assurance of a good result from the quality of players in camp.
He, however, admitted that he and his players cannot afford to take the visitors for granted, as The Mediterranean Knights, who are currently last in the group, will enter the match like wounded lions.
‘Egu’ added, “They are down right now, but that doesn’t mean they can’t rise. They still have a couple of games to play, and they will try to get a good result against us.
“They will first be away, and we will then be away. We know our position, and they know their position. They will come here and fight, but we will also try.”
While many observers are already giving Nigeria the edge based on recent results achieved by either side, Eguavoen insisted that the focus should be on the upcoming fixture, not on matches from the past nor those coming after Friday’s clash.
“Let’s forget about the past games, as we look ahead to Libya’s game,” the ex-international, who was fondly called ‘Cerezo’ during his playing days, projected.
“We are not even thinking of the away game yet. Our focus for now is on the game in front of us, and the boys are ready.”
He concluded with a promise that his players will put in their very best efforts, in order to win Friday’s match in the Akwa Ibom State capital and move closer to the AFCON 2025 ticket
“We will give Libya a tough fight. We’ll fight for those three points, because every second counts.
“We also know what it means to get the job done and over with as quickly as possible.
“It’s going to be toug but, I think, at the end of the day, with the boys we have, the spirit, and nobody is injured right now, we will deliver,” Eguavoen retorted.
