This level of optimism was expressed in Lagos where the media was informed on plans for the 2023 edition tagged the Trilogy.
It would be recalled that the 2022 overall champion Enoch Nwali went ahead to win the African Championship in Zambia.
EEAST initiator Emmanuel Egbele said he hope the scenario at the 2nd edition where winner Enoch Nwali went ahead to win the African Championship in Zambia would play out at the World Championships.
Egbele who is the South-West coordinator on the board of the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) said his team has further built more steps in taking the Trilogy edition to a newfound height.
As part of the innovations, this edition would be a paperless “Green” event to protect the ozone layer while a pre-tournament event named ‘The Early Birds’ will hold a day before the event proper while a “TGIF” will also be organized for players’ relaxation.
Interestingly, a new veterans category has been introduced to accommodate older players who desire to feature in the tournament.
Over 100 players will compete in the Opens, Intermediate, and Master categories.
Meanwhile, defending champion Nwali said he hopes to win the title again.
He affirmed that his hunger to make it a record back-to-back win has not waned even after wearing a new toga as the African champion.
He commended the organizers for the timing which give him and other players a strategic opportunity at preparing for the WESPAC in Las Vegas, USA in July.
In the same vein, Opens champion Emmanuel Enyi, who has since moved up to the intermediate category said the tournament gave him a platform to win his first title as a player.
The tournament is slated to hold from June 2-3 at the Eko Hotel, Lagos.
