Edo state Teqball association has been commended by an ex Europe based football administrator, Steve Okeh for the successful completion of the maiden Edition of Edo state Teqball championship held in Benin city recently.
The ex footballer gave the commendation in a chat with some sports journalists in Lagos on Tuesday. Okeh who is on holidays in Nigeria task other states to emulate Edo state Teqball association adding that the only way to develop the sport is for a regular tournament.
” I want to sincerely commend Edo state Teqball association for the successful completion of a Teqball championship aimed at creating awareness about the game in the state, no doubt the enabling environment has been created by the state Government, following the massive investment in sports, other states should emulate Edo.
Okeh however advised that Teqball which is big in other parts of the world should be taken to the grassroots, schools, local government Areas, with a yearly calendar so as to grow the game in Nigeria.
” if we must grow the game in Nigeria, we must take it to the grassroots, organised tournaments amongst
the schools, local government as well and have a well tailored calendar for the game to grow fast, okeh posited.
Meanwhile, Philip Shaibi Teqball club, and Osarodion Ogie Teqball club are to fly Edo state flag at the maiden national Teqball championship slated for Jos Plateau state next month.
It would be recalled that Philip Shaibu Teqball club won the male and female singles as well as the male doubles of the just concluded Edo state Teqball championship, why Osarodion Ogie Teqball club emerged winners in female doubles, and Uyi Amegor Teqball club were victorious in the mix doubles.
Edo state Sports loving deputy Governor Rt Hon Philip Shaibu was represented at the event by Emmanuel Akhaba, Edo state sports commission chairman was represented by the director of Sports of the commission Mr Arewa, Board members of the Edo state Teqball association which include,Ben Ehinebor, technical officials, the association secretary Uwadiae Lucky Sampele were among those who grace the closing ceremony at the Etete Gymnasium in Benin city.
