Hundreds of workers, including athletes, coaches, and staff, gathered at the iconic Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium to participate in a three-day general walkout designed to kick-start the new year.

By 7 AM, the stadium’s main bowl was abuzz with energy as attendees, led by Mrs. Patricia Efe Amenze, Director of Sports Department and Operations, participated in prayers before beginning the fitness session.

The event, which marks the end of the yuletide break, serves to rejuvenate the workforce and prepare them for the challenges and activities ahead.

The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, highlighted the importance of the annual initiative.

“This walkout is a tradition to welcome ourselves back from the Christmas break. It helps us keep fit, conduct a seamless headcount, and come together as a family. As a sports institution, beginning the year with physical fitness is crucial.”

He also commended the staff and athletes for their dedication in the past year and encouraged greater commitment in preparation for the National Sports Festival scheduled for May.

Mrs. Amenze echoed the Chairman’s sentiments, describing the general walkout as a vital event aimed at fostering teamwork and promoting physical fitness among staff and athletes.

Head Coach of Edo Karate, Osazuwa Uriel, expressed enthusiasm for the program. “It’s great to come together as one big family to start the year. This sets a positive tone for the season and prepares us for the tasks ahead,” he remarked.

Karate athlete Ramatu Momoh shared her perspective on the initiative, emphasizing its importance for health and unity. “This is an opportunity for us to thank God for life, pray for a prosperous year, and work on our fitness.”

The three-day exercise underscores the Edo State Sports Commission’s commitment to fostering both physical and mental readiness as they gear up for another year of sporting excellence.
