The National Division One League will become bigger and better after the Edo State Government approved a four-year sponsorship of the second-tier League.
In a letter addressed to the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) and signed by the Permanent Secretary to Office of the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Madam Obabainohojie, H.E, the hosting and sponsorship of Division One League was approved by the state government and will commence by the first quarter of 2022.
The Secretary-General of HFN Alhaji Maigidansanma Mohammed has commended the Edo State Government for partnering with the federation to develop the game in Nigeria.
Alhaji Maigidansanma also said the board of the federation will work with the Edo State Government and the State’s Handball Association to get a perfect date for the championship.
“I want to commend the Edo State Government especially the Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu for approving the hosting and sponsorship of the Division One League”. Alhaji Maigidansanma Mohammed said
“It shows that they are committed to the development of handball in Nigeria
“We will work with the Government of Edo State and the Edo Handball Association to advise the board accordingly on a new date.” He concluded
The Edo State government had committed to hosting the Division One League in July after the Deputy Governor of the state Comrade Philip Shaibu indicated that the state is willing to host and sponsor the league for four years while receiving the president of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) Mr. Samuel Ocheho and other stakeholders which includes members of the Edo State Handball Association on the side of the Division One League which was held in Benin at the time.
